Subtitle projects: manage, review, and export tracks
Updated 31 October 2026
Subtitle projects contain one video and timed subtitle or closed-caption tracks. You can find them in the Projects list, where projects are shown with their type, duration, activity, creator, and status. Select a project name or row to open it.
Understand project statuses
- Draft: the project is neither processing nor finished.
- Processing: the video is being analysed and tracks are being built. Tracks appear as they are created.
- Completed: tracks are ready to edit, add languages to, and download.
- Failed: processing stopped; open the project to investigate or use Retry or Reprocess.
- Cancelled: processing was cancelled.
Start and open a project
When a subtitle or transcription project starts, the video is analysed and a track is created for each target dialogue language and each selected closed-caption language. Project context such as notes, files, links, and an IMDb title is used for names and terms. When processing finishes, the project opens in the subtitle workspace. You can also open it from the Projects list.
The project has two main pages:
- Subtitle workspace: edit cues, approve or flag them, and save changes.
- Project review: inspect every track alongside the player, leave cue feedback, compare tracks, view project details, and export files. Use Review in the workspace to open it; Back returns to the workspace.
For a full creation walkthrough, see How to create a subtitles, transcription, HoH, or audio description project.
Download subtitle files
Projects export subtitle files as SRT. You can download them in three ways:
- From the Projects list, select Download on a completed project. In the Project review page, use the Export card and select a track.
- In Project review, download the open track or open the track list beside Compare with and select a track's download button.
- In the subtitle workspace, select Export SRT to download the open track, including unsaved edits. Caption-track filenames include
.cc.
For WebVTT and supported import formats, see Subtitle formats: import and export.
Add languages to a completed project
After a project is completed:
- Open the track selector in the workspace and select Add a language. In Project review, select Add languages.
- Choose Dialogue languages for subtitles, CC languages for closed captions, or both.
- Select Add.
Only languages not already present are offered. The new tracks are created like the original tracks. These controls are unavailable while the project is processing or before it is completed.
Reprocess a project
Reprocessing creates a new subtitle track with the updated pipeline; existing subtitle files remain unchanged.
- Open More actions in the workspace and select Reprocess, or select Reprocess in Project review. For a failed project, Retry in the Projects list performs the same action.
- Confirm that you want to create a new track.
- If the project has caption tracks, choose whether to include captions and which languages, then continue.
Reprocessing is unavailable while the project is processing.
Delete a project
Open More actions in the workspace and select Delete project, or select Delete in Project review. Confirm the deletion to return to Projects. A project cannot be deleted while it is processing.
Permissions and plan requirements
